The Lantern Way Challenge

Hot and water available (please bring your own mug) and toilet facility available at start/finish.

Brief description. This is a self-guided walk along the Lantern Way, a signposted route with way markers along the route. The Lantern Way follows a route clockwise from Dursley Town Hall through Cam & Coaley to Uley and back to Dursley.  The walk has some climbs, including a climb to Uley Bury. This rural walk takes you through farmland, woodland and country lanes, conditions of footpaths, gateways and stiles will vary along the route and it may be muddy in places.
Entrants will receive a copy of the Lantern Way Walk route description leaflet, plus a pen and certificate for finishing. It is recommended that you bring a picnic lunch and plenty of drink. There will be one checkpoint and cold drink stop halfway round (please bring your own mug). Runners welcome.
Terms and conditions for entering – you need to be in good physical health to enter this walk.  The walk has some steep sections so care is needed. You may encounter some fields containing livestock. There is some road crossing and lane walking, be aware of traffic and take care.            
Participants must have a mobile telephone and they must contact the event team if they plan to drop out for any reason. We will require contact details and a back up phone number in case needed. We will have a walker sweeping up behind.

Photography Walk

Brief description.     A photographic walk, heading from the streets of Dursley to the tracks in the pretty woods above (potentially muddy). We’ll be stopping often for photos, with local photographer Tim Taphouse offering advice on how to take better images. Suitable for all photographers, from beginners to experienced. Bring any camera along, including phones.

Woodchester Ring

Start point and grid reference.  Coaley Peak Picnic Site Car Park site entrance on B4066 near Woodchester Park entrance.

Brief description. Woodchester Park, South Woodchester, 600 foot climb to Selsley Common, Cotswold Way through Stanley Wood. Hilly and level mix. Booking not required, just turn up, 10 minutes before start.  Bring food and drink.

Geology and Scenery of the Dursley Outliers

Brief description.       Starting from Cam Peak car park we will explore the Dursley outliers on footpaths and tracks There will be 3 relatively steep climbs of between 60 and 100 metres. Sturdy, ankle-supporting footwear with soles that have good grip is recommended for the steep slopes. The walk will stop at the pub in Uley for lunch, but participants are very welcome to bring their own packed lunch to picnic on the green. It is recommended that everyone should bring a drink with them. There will be numerous stops during the walk depending on questions/interest and these will involve looking at landscape and /or rocks.

Booking not required, just turn up.

Stunning Views - Korea Friendship Trail

Circular from Dursley

Duration   2.5 hours Distance   5 miles.

Brief description.
Meeting at the historic Market Place in Dursley Town Centre, we will walk through the town centre on Parsonage Street which is pedestrianised and has a lovely range of local shops. We leave the town centre by joining the Cotswold Way which leads us up Stinchcombe Hill, through attractive woodland as you climb up onto the top of Stinchcombe Hill itself. At this point we find ourselves next to Stinchcombe Hill Golf Club. The walk then follows the Korea Friendship Trail, which is part of the Cotswold Way, following it around the top of the hill offering several vantage points with wonderful views across to Nibley, along the River Severn and then back over Dursley town itself. We will then work our way back down Stinchcombe Hill and back to the Market Place.
The terrain is a mix of roads, wooded paths and common land.
Warning – Stinchcombe Hill is particularly steep and which can be quite challenging for those participants with health conditions. If you would like to join the walk but want to avoid the hill then please join us at 10.30am at Stinchcombe Hill Golf Club GL11 6AQ, you have permission to park in their car park and enjoy refreshments before and after the walk there.
There are toilets at May Lane car park and Stinchcombe Hill Golf Club. Bring food and drink. Please bring a camera to capture the wonderful views, clothing and footwear appropriate to the conditions on the day, a light snack and a drink. Trekking or Nordic walking poles if you have them to help with the hill.

          Heritage Walk - Dursley,


          Uley Road and Woodmancote area


Duration   2-3 Hours. Distance   3-3.5 miles.

Brief description. A slow walk around the Uley Road and Woodmancote areas of Dursley with frequent stops to look at and talk about places and items of historical interest. These will include the old mill area of Ferney, Mawdsley's, Rangers House, St Mark's Church and Dursley's first Grammar School in Woodmancote as well as the impact of WW2 on the town. The walk will mostly be on streets but some of it will be across fields, gates and stiles so it may be uneven in places. Frequent and regular stops of 2 to 5 minutes, standing.

Women's Walk and Talk

Brief description. Come to the GPS Embroidery exhibition and then join the artists for a walk at 11 a.m., this will be a walk and talk for women to think and talk to each other about walking.  The conversation will touch on ideas and thoughts discussed in the original GPS workshop.  The walk will be with artist Lizzie Philps and some of the women who took park in the original GPS walks.

                       Milling around Cam and Coaley

Brief description.     A walk following the River Cam looking at the local mills in Cam and Dursley.  A flattish walk with some tough terrain on quiet footpaths.  Bring drink.  No need to book, just turn up.  Parking is available in the Tesco car park - you must register your vehicle at the customer service desk.  If you do not register and stay longer than 3 hours you will get a fine.  Booking not required, just turn up.

Historic Graveyards of Cam.

Duration  2  Hours. Distance   2 miles.

Brief description. This heritage tour will visit the graveyards of four Cam churches. The focus will be on notable individuals buried in each graveyard plus more general points of interest and historic background. There is some uneven ground in the graveyards. The walk will take place on pavements and footpaths . Bring drink. 
Additional parking is available in the Tesco Car Park, you must register your car at the Tesco customer service desk. If you do not register and stay longer than 3 hours you will get a fine from the Tesco central system.

Brief description. A walk along part of the Cam Dursley and Uley Greenway. Starting at                                the Cam/Dursley boundary and following the proposed route with stops to discuss issues about use of the Greenway. On paths or pavements along parts of the proposed Greenway route.  On paths or pavements, generally flat.
